Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, sleepy town. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. Many people believe that it is an island west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is often referred to as her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short time. Brugel grew to be an aspiring young lady in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. She initially wanted to pursue a career as an actress However, following a dramatic increase in size, her friends weren't able to dance with her. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. The Brugel is one of the former dancers who turned to acting. Her high school teacher school was what pushed her in the right direction. One of her teachers suggested she take part in an audition for the annual school play. She auditioned and ended up playing the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work been seen on both the small and large screen. The most notable was her attention when she won her part as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian cast member in Season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
